Swire Coca-Cola, USA and Monster Energy Company Reach Agreement on
Arizona and New Mexico Distribution

March 18, 2019 – Draper, Utah – Today Swire Coca-Cola, USA announced the signing of a distribution agreement giving the company and other Coca-Cola franchise bottlers the rights to distribute Monster products throughout Arizona and in limited areas of New Mexico and Colorado.

The terms of the deal give Swire Coca-Cola, USA along with Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, Deming Coca-Cola, and Durango Coca-Cola distribution rights for Monster Energy Company products. The agreement was finalized on March 15, 2019.

"The acquisition of the rights to build upon our distribution of Monster products is exciting and an excellent fit for Swire's business model," said Jack Pelo, President and CEO of Swire Coca-Cola, USA. "Monster has been a great partner for us throughout our 13-state territory, and we look forward to deepening our relationship in the Southwest. We also know Monster has the brands that consumers want in the energy drink category."

The Coca-Cola Company holds a minority interest in Monster Energy Company.

Swire Coca-Cola, USA Announces Executive and Senior Leadership Transitions

Draper, Utah – January 7, 2019 – Today Swire Coca-Cola, USA announced a series of leadership changes. The changes are part of the company’s long-term leadership succession plan which has been in place for many years.

In announcing the transitions, Swire Coca-Cola’s President and CEO Jack Pelo said, “One of the hallmarks of all Swire companies is the creation of a leadership succession plan. A great deal of thought has been put into the implementation of this plan to ensure we have the right leaders, in the right place, at the right time. I want to ensure new leaders also have time working with and learning from veteran executives.”

The following leadership changes and effective dates were communicated by Swire:

  • Effective March 1st Paul Lukanowski will retire as Chief Operating Officer for Swire Coca-Cola, USA. Paul will move into a senior leadership position for BODYARMOR. The Coca-Cola Company took a partial ownership position in BODYARMOR in 2018.

  • Rob Gehring will move from his role as Senior Vice President and General Manager to become Chief Operating Officer. The transition will occur on March 4th.

  • Rusty Frain will transition from Vice President of Sales Operations to Senior Vice President and General Manager. The transition will occur on March 4th.

  • Karen Cox will be promoted from Division Vice President for Southern Arizona to Vice President of Sales Operations. The transition will occur on March 4th.

  • Rocky Christeson will retire from the company as Chief Customer Officer. His retirement is effective March 29th.

  • Steve Quercia will move from Group Vice President of Channel Sales to become Chief Customer Officer on April 1st.

  • Successors for the Division Vice President for Southern Arizona and Group Vice President of Channel Sales will be announced soon.


“Our goal over the next few months is to make certain our business continues to perform at the highest level while these leadership changes take place,” continued Pelo. “Without a doubt, it will be difficult to say good-bye to Paul and Rocky as they retire from our company. I have worked closely with both for over two decades. Paul brought strong leadership, in-depth industry knowledge, tremendous relationships and an unmatched passion to succeed to our business. His imprint on our company will be felt for years to come. Rocky’s perspective, competitive drive, and deep customer insight will also leave a lasting legacy for all of those who follow in his wake. Rocky has spent the past several years developing talent to prepare for his departure. For that effort, we offer him a debt of gratitude.”

Swire Coca-Cola, USA to be Exclusive Soft Drink Provider to the Utah Jazz

DRAPER, UT – September 24, 2018 - Swire Coca-Cola, USA will continue to be the exclusive soft drink provider at Vivint Smart Home Arena, home of the Utah Jazz. The relationship between Swire Coca-Cola and the Jazz began in 1979 when the NBA team moved to Utah. The new five-year deal means Jazz fans and players will continue to enjoy a range of refreshing beverage choices that includes Coca-Cola®, Diet Coke®, Coca-Cola® Zero Sugar, Sprite®, DASANI® water, smartwater®, vitaminwater®, and other beverages.

The deal between Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment and Draper-based Swire Coca-Cola, the bottler and distributor of Coca-Cola® and other beverage brands in 13 western states, will see Coke products served at all events at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. These events include Utah Jazz games, major touring concerts, college basketball games, family ice shows, and community events.

Swire Coca-Cola Creates Chief Operating Officer Role and Hires Industry Veteran to Lead Sales Organization

Paul Lukanowski promoted to COO; Rob Gehring Moves from The Hershey Company

DRAPER, UT – May 25, 2018 – Swire Coca-Cola, USA today announced two changes to its executive leadership team. These changes come as the company completes a period of intensive growth, resulting in a quadrupling of the size of the company.

With this rapid expansion comes the need to evolve the company’s senior leadership structure. To that end, effective immediately, Paul Lukanowski will move from his current position as Senior Vice President and General Manager to become Swire’s first Chief Operating Officer. Lukanowski has been with the company for twenty-two years. In this critical, new role Lukanowski will lead current business priorities while exploring new opportunities for development and investment. He will also assess and build upon the company's capabilities to ensure it remains on a path of accelerated growth.

In announcing the newly created COO position and Lukanowski’s promotion, Swire Coca-Cola CEO and President, Jack Pelo stated, “For over two decades Paul Lukanowski has been instrumental to the success of Swire Coca-Cola. In this expanded role he will focus on the entirety of our business, looking for ways to improve our overall efficiency and effectiveness. Paul’s drive for success and unparalleled knowledge of our industry will serve us well.”

Additionally, effective July 1, 2018, Rob Gehring will assume Lukanowski’s previous role as Senior Vice President and General Manager. Gehring joins Swire Coca-Cola after serving as Global Chief Sales Officer for The Hershey Company. At Swire, Gehring will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s sales operations and capabilities, food service on-premise, customer relationships, revenue growth management, and marketing.

With over 25 years of consumer product goods experience, Gehring led Hershey's customer-focused organization to drive profitable growth globally and deliver sales numbers across all business segments, retail channels, and global customers. He also led sales operations for Hershey.

Gehring is also a longtime veteran of the Coca-Cola System. He previously served as President of the Walmart Global Team leading the global customer team managing the relationship with Walmart and Sam’s Club and the respective Coca-Cola franchise bottlers in 28 countries. Gehring had held several other roles within the Coca-Cola System including Vice President of Sales in the Canadian and Western U.S. business units.

“We are excited about the energy and experience Rob Gehring will bring to Swire,” said Pelo. “He is familiar with our business, our customers, our markets, and our people. In anticipation of these important changes we have put a detailed transition plan in place to ensure both Paul and Rob move into their new roles successfully and quickly.”

Swire Coca-Cola, USA Acquires Tempe Production Center from The Coca-Cola Company

DRAPER, UT – August 29, 2017 – Swire Coca-Cola, USA announced today the completion of its acquisition of the Coca-Cola Production Center in Tempe, AZ. The purchase is part of The Coca-Cola Company’s refranchising process. Swire Coca-Cola’s operation of the production facility commenced August 25th.

The addition of the Tempe Production Center builds on Swire Coca-Cola’s growing footprint in the United States. The Utah-based company now operates in 13 western states. Prior to this purchase, Swire Coca-Cola operated four production facilities. This deal increases Swire     Coca-Cola’s workforce by almost 160 employees.

The Tempe Production Center is one of the largest manufacturers of Coca-Cola products in the United States. The plant operates multiple production lines and manufactures almost 40 million cases of beverages annually.

“The addition of the Tempe Production Center will enhance Swire Coca-Cola’s overall operations. Having another manufacturing operation in our franchise territory allows us more control and helps us build upon our excellent customer service standards,” said Jack Pelo, CEO and President of Swire Coca-Cola, USA. “Swire Coca-Cola’s amazing growth – we have quadrupled in size in just over three years – is exciting and bodes well for our continued success.
